In this video, we make an important shift to talk about thanbdésyahan. Instead of focusing on what we can add to our lives, we talk honestly about what we must cut out in order to protect our health, our families, and our culture.
Today’s focus is thanbdésyahan — being sober.
This conversation includes avoiding alcohol and drugs, and also quitting cigarette smoking. While cigarettes may not cause intoxication, they are just as destructive to long-term health. Trying to build a culture of health while continuing to use alcohol, drugs, or tobacco is like trying to build a home while tearing down its foundation at the same time.
We talk about how these substances affect not only the body, but also the mind, spirit, families, and the Oyate as a whole. We also acknowledge the real challenge before us: creating a culture that shuns harmful substances while still loving and supporting relatives who are still struggling.
This is not a conversation about shame or judgment. It’s about truth, responsibility, healing, and walking forward together.
👇 Join the conversation below: Take time to reflect, think, and pray. Then share your thoughts. Respond to one another with honesty and encouragement, and keep these conversations going beyond this space and into everyday life.
Wicozani Waste is not built in one day or one video series. It is built over time — through the open, honest, fierce, and loving participation of the people.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Thank you for helping shape a culture of health for yourselves, your families, and the Oyate.
Aho Mitakuyapi.
